How is it to arrive to Chicago: The “Windy City”
One of the most amazing things that can happen to a human being is to have the opportunity to travel; to live new experiences, meet new people and a new culture. It is the door that takes you to another world and definitely when you come back home, something has changed, in some inexplicable way, you are not the same anymore.
But not everything is that easy; if you are planning to come to Chicago and leave your comfort zone and risk it all, you will need lots of guts… oh, and tons of gloves, jackets, scarfs and everything that can possibly help you to bear this cold!
But before I talk about that little detail about temperature, let me tell you that Chicago is a huge and marvelous city; you will be stunned with its breath-taking skyscrapers, very diverse neighborhoods and wonderful architecture; there are also restaurants, bars and stores almost everywhere.
It’s a city where you can find people from all parts of the world that are really friendly and willing to help you if you need it whenever you ask, I’ve been here for a week now and everyone that I have talked to has helped me a lot to find housing, transportation and even clothing!
As for food, you can find all kinds of restaurants such as Greek, Italian, Asian and Mexican restaurants (just to mention some of them) but don’t expect that it’s going to be healthy, but there is definitely a must-try: “The deep dish pizza” which is the Chicago’s style pizza, I’m sure you’ll love it.
Despite for being a beautiful city, you must know that weather is really extreme, as I said; you will need a good pair of gloves, a good scarf, hat, thermic clothes, warm socks and a good pair of snow boots (which I don’t have yet!) but if you do, you’ll find the snowing time really enjoyable and eye-catching as well; especially if you have never seen the snow before like me.
Undoubtedly, it’s not easy to just leave everything behind, your family, friends and even your pets! But I know that at some point, all this struggle and adapting process will be worth it, there’s a word that changed my life and has pushed me far beyond my boundaries even before I left my country…FEAR. For me it has two meanings: Forget Everything And Run or Face Everything And Rise!
The choice is yours.
