On Tuesday, September 1, 2015, President Obama arrived in Seward, Alaska to visit Exit Glacier. The glacier, which has melted significantly over the past two centuries, served as a focus point for Obama’s remarks on climate change in Alaska.
Perhaps more exciting for Summer Work and Travel participants living in Seward, however, was Obama’s next stop—a visit to Sweet Darlings Ice Cream Shop, a local Seward favorite. J-1 participants were able to catch a glimpse of the president up close as he looked over the ice cream flavors while reporters snapped pictures. The Seward participants felt very lucky to see President Obama, something that most Americans don’t get to do!
