Spirit is happy to recognize one of our Turkish participants, Yusuf K., for being voted Back-of-House Employee of the Year by his peers and managers at Moosejaw Pizza and Brewing Company in Wisconsin Dells, WI!
"He was incredibly surprised and happy to win. His prize is an iPad and a plaque, as well as his name on our permanent in-house plaque," said his employer.
Near the end of every summer, Moosejaw staff votes for Front-of-House and Back-of-House Employees of the Year, Supervisor of the Year and Manager of the Year. Team members vote within their departments, and managers can vote across departments; each employee is given 3 votes (one for themselves, one for their best friend, and one for someone they really thinks deserves it).
The criteria Moosejaw asks staff to consider includes:
– Takes pride in his/her work
– Consistently goes above and beyond what is expected
– Works well and gets along with others
– Is willing to help out where and when needed
– Is always on time, in proper uniform, and ready to work
This year's Back-of-House Staff included Americans as well as students from Turkey, China, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Jordan, Moldova, Macedonia, Serbia, Russia and Lithuania.
"I think this speaks greatly to the positive energy and eagerness to both work in and participate in the American culture that the great majority of the J-1 students bring to the program," said Yusuf's employer.
