With the help of Wisconsin Dells Taxi, Spirit arrived at our participants’ housing right at 8AM both days for pickup. Thanks to our driver Todd, we safely made it to and from the Dells each day.
We started our day with a guided tour of the Capitol building at 10AM, where we learned facts about the building as well as the government and history of Wisconsin. Our participants then had a chance to visit the Observation Deck for beautiful photo opportunities. They thought it was cool to be inside a government building and to see all the architectural details that went into building it.
After the tour, we walked 30 minutes to the university, where we dined in the union hall. Students could choose from a variety of restaurants with a pre-loaded dining card. They enjoyed a long break for lunch and relaxing before the guided university tour.
The second tour lasted about an hour and a half. The guides were University of Wisconsin-Madison students and recent graduates from the university, which made it more relatable for our Summer Work Travel participants to have a guide around their age.
It was a beautiful walking tour of the campus, and we got to see multiple buildings, two different types of classrooms, and the incredible lakefront the university has to offer. The students enjoyed comparing the university to their universities back home. Many were in awe of the sheer size!
After the second tour, we drove the hour ride back in our taxi to drop participants off at their housing.
On the first day, we also attended a CSG Welcome BBQ, which was a lot of fun! There were a few hundred participants in attendance in a park with lots of food, games, and music. It was a beautiful night to celebrate the Summer Work Travel program and welcome participants to the Dells.
