My time here in Quito felt endless due to the fun and loving family that was provided to me. We woke up and had our final lunch at our grandma’s house, where we talked about the fun time we had at our family party and how great our grandma’s food always is. Additionally, I got to meet Negra, a loving dog who loves to be carried and patted by international strangers every summer. During this time, it did not dawn on me that I was leaving this family for three weeks (I am coming back on the last day before my flight and that was the greatest news all afternoon). I was happy to be with them for a week because it really showed me what Quito had to offer: loving and enjoyable life up in the mountains and close to clouds. We then had our final dinner and talked about the same thing we had during lunch because we all enjoyed our time together. We talked about the graduation party we had the night before and the short memories we had with one another, like me making their first french toast for them and commenting on how it is one of the best things they have ever tasted – my first time cooking anything to be honest. And finally, we were off to bed, ready for the next day.
I went to bed thinking about the memorable times I had with my family. I did not want to leave them because I felt good with them. Every dinner always had music and the table always welcomed us to eat with the family, and that was something I cherished with them. I hope everyone gets to experience this feeling with their future host families and families in general.
